Abstract: In a modular drinking water treatment system (MDWTS), a sterilization method is necessary to kill all the potential pathogens in the water and make it safe to drink. Currently, there are mainly two methods in the treatment system, which are ozonation and UV. Each technology is being widely used in the water treatment plant nowadays. However, when applying it on the MDWTS, due to change of scale and variety in the operation environment, it can face some emerging challenges. However, due to the development and modification of new technology, the bottleneck of applying UV and ozone on the MDWTS is solved one after another. These adaptation at the smaller or modular scale would promote MDWTS that will make it more widespread for its usage and mature in handling a variety of raw water source to convert them into potable water. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
