Ferrofluids, is a colloidal suspension of ferri/ferro magnetic nanoparticles which has gained significant attention in recent decades due to their potential applications in a wide range of technical applications such as dampers, coolants, optical sensors, energy storage devices, catalysis, and wastewater treatment, as well as biomedical applications like magnetic fluid hyperthermia, magnetic resonance imaging, and targeted drug delivery. These suspensions are stable and can be controlled by applied magnetic fields. To improve stability and prevent agglomeration, surfactants and polymers are often used to coat the nanoparticles. In this chapter, we provide an in-depth examination of the research background, properties, and potential applications of ferrofluids. This includes an overview of the general properties of ferrofluids, nano-ferrites, and their synthesis methods, as well as a discussion of the various physical and chemical synthesis methods with their optimization conditions and protocols. Additionally, we examine the general properties such as Ferrohydrodynamic, magnetic and rheological properties of ferrofluids. Although the focus of this chapter is on ordered ferrofluids materials, the information provided is highly informative for researchers working in a wide range of magnetic materials. © 2023 R.P.
