Abstract: A circularly polarized (CP) Yagi antenna having a frequency range of 28.9-30 GHz is studied in this paper. A linearly polarized (LP) Yagi antenna is incorporated with the transmission type FSS-based polarization converter to get the CP Yagi antenna. The FSS-Based LP to CP converter is designed using four layers of 0.254 mm thin FR4 substrate having a unit cell of size 0.37λ0 × 0.37λ0 × 0.65λ0 (λ0 is the frequency corresponding to 26.5 GHz). The 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 2.36% (29.3-30 GHz) is obtained with a peak gain of 8.1 dBiC at 29.5 GHz. The 3-dB beamwidth of the CP antenna is 54° and 50° in x-z-plane and y-z-planes, respectively, at 29.5 GHz. The antenna prototype is designed and measured. The simulated and the experimental results are satisfactory and the proposed design will be a good substitute for the existing designs. © 2023 IEEE.
