Abstract: This paper presents the design of near-field focussing reflector metasurface antenna for wireless power transfer applications at 5.8 GHz. The metasurface is designed using an array of 13 × 13, 1-bit phase qunatized crossed dipole type elements with unit cell volume of 0.49λ × 0.49 λ × 0.13 λ (λ is corresponding to frequency of 5.8 GHz). The proposed metasurface reflector illuminated by a microstrip patch antenna is capable of focussing the radiation to a single spot. The focus can be varied from 1.5-3 λ. The far-field results of the antenna show a broadside radiation with gain of 12.3 dBi and 3dB beamwidth of 9.5° and 7.8° in xz and yz-planes, respectively. © 2022 IEEE.
